An idea for a special watch often lies dormant in the archive for a long time. Most of the time we ask ourselves why no one had this idea before and doubt its feasibility for a while. This is where research into the market situation and product requirements begins. What is already available, what kind of watch does the target group want, what can our company achieve here?

With PARACELSUS we primarily address the large group of people working in the medical field. We wanted to develop a watch that would meet the professional requirements and special lifestyle of this profession. Here we come into contact with doctors, pharmacists and paramedics and get feedback and know-how from our future customers. A “medical watch” has to meet special requirements in terms of hygienic and mechanical stresses, it has to be easy to read and it should have additional functions that are useful at the workplace. In addition, the target group should also feel addressed in the product design and be offered a measuring instrument of lasting value. So we decided to plan the housing and functional elements with soft lines, so that dirt deposits are minimized. For scratch resistance and durability, the watch features sapphire crystal and a surgical steel case with a heavy 10-micron gold or rhodium plating. The water resistance had to be 10 bar according to DIN 8310, which roughly corresponds to a diving pressure of 100 m. Function and value are provided by an automatically winding Swiss chronograph movement with maximum accuracy and a stopwatch function. We have added a pulsometer measuring device to these functions. A folding clasp in the same finish as the case ensures safe wearing comfort. The naming of the watch and the design of the hands were chosen in accordance with the medical character, for which production tools in the form of a staff of Aesculapius were specially made.

The PARACELSUS PULSOMETER CHRONOGRAPH is limited to 300 pieces. If the customer opts for the exclusive watchmaker’s edition, the individual parts of the movement are gilded with 585 fine gold and the visible screws are blued by hand in cornflower blue. Here, the watchmaker “composes” gold and steel polished elements with the screws and jewels to create a unique masterpiece. Working on such a movement takes more than a full working day. It is delivered with a certificate magnetic card and operating instructions.

Since the pulsometer measuring device is purely an additional component to the otherwise extensive chronograph equipment, the watch can of course also be used by all customers without a medical profession.
