Description
Ferdinand Magellan, known in Spanish as Fernando de Magallanes, was a navigator who was commissioned by the Spanish crown to find a western route to the East Indies. He became the initiator of the first historically documented circumnavigation of the world.
The KronSegler “Fernando de Magallanes” Worldtimer is a mechanical watch with a true GMT function (2nd time zone), also known as “Flyer GMT”. The watch allows the normal hour hand and the date to be adjusted forwards or backwards as required, while the minute, second and 24-hour hands continue to run with the home time. When traveling, the local time can therefore be set very quickly and read as usual with three hands, while still keeping an eye on the home time. The outer time zone scale shows both the 24-hour scale of the home time and the time difference between the GMT (Greenwich Mean Time/London) time zones in tabular form.
The movement is a fast beat movement (28,800 A/H , 4 Hz, CITIZEN Miyota 9075 Base) mounted on 24 rubies with a Glucydur balance. A Glucydur balance has a much greater hardness than a nickel or brass balance. This makes it easier to rivet, balance and fine-tune. The power reserve when fully wound is >40 hours.
The watch is available in three color combinations. The white or black dials are Arabic-indexed, clearly structured and easy to read. The minute and standard hour hands are leaf-shaped and shimmer silver or cornflower blue, depending on the model. Both the second and 24-hour hands have a diamond-shaped decoration. The 24-hour hand is highlighted in color, but its slender shape does not distract from the main hands. The date at 3 o’clock is framed in a circle and can be set both forwards and backwards.
The steel or two-layer gold-plated cases (IPG + real gold) with stepped bezels appear extremely flat despite their size of 43 mm in diameter and 11 mm thick thanks to their flowing shapes. The back of the watch is screwed in and has a glass window that provides a view of the movement. The crown is easy to grip and makes setting and winding the watch effortless. For the best possible protection against scratches, the Worldtimer is equipped with triple anti-reflective sapphire crystal.
The high-quality, thickly padded and fully stitched genuine leather straps in black or brown feature a Kronsegler crest button and a folding clasp with safety double pushers. Alternatively, the watch series is also available with a woven Milanese bracelet. The “Fernando de Magallanes“ Worldtimer is delivered in an exclusive box with certificate, detailed booklet and polishing cloth.
